Although electricity is the prime mover for development of society the previous UDF government could give only scant attention to expansion in this sector during the five years of its regime. They could generate additionally a meager 26.6 MW of electricity only. So, in the very beginning of the LDF Government assuming power self – sufficiency in power generation was accepted as the goal to be achieved. Lethargy that gripped the power sector was removed. We could register remarkable progress during the last two years.

During the last three years of Governance LDF Government has been fully implementing all schemes meant for the amelioration of the lives of SC/ST people.  Government endeavour is to provide basic amenities including housing and healthcare to all SC/ST families within the five years of this government.

Effective Energy Management

Looking back on the occasion of the third anniversary of the LDF Government one can see that effective energy management in the state helped to do away with power cut and load shedding in the state in spite adverse circumstances.  Efforts to add to the energy capacity of the state through new projects are also fructifying significantly.   In the field of e-administration, Kerala State Electricity Board has broken a new path by   developing own software ‘Oruma’ installed in all electrical sections.

Electricity Minister, A. K. Balan laid the foundation for a 33 KV substation at Vellarada in Thiruvananthapuram district. Around 25000 consumers in Vellarada, Amburi, Aryankode, Vazhichal, Kunnathukal, Kollayil and Ottasekharamangalam will benefit from the substaion.
